Move the Z-height up to allow enough room to pull the hotend out.
Heat hotend and unload any filament.
Allow hotend to cool to room temp.
Turn off and unplug the printer.
Removal
Step 1: Remove the two screws on the front of the fan shroud with a 2.0 mm hex key.
Step 2: Carefully slide off the housing
Step 3: Disconnect the fan shroud from the toolhead daughterboard and set it aside. (If you have trouble removing the connectors, you may find tweezers helpful—just be careful.)
Step 4: Next, remove the two screws at the top back of the hotend assembly and slide the metal cable guide out of the way.
Step 5: Disconnect the tool head cable and remove the remaining screw holding the tool head to the gantry with your 2.0 mm hex key.
This allows us to remove the entire toolhead, making changing the hotend even easier.
Step 6: With the entire assembly in front of you, remove the heater set screw with a 1.5 mm hex key
Step 7: Remove the temperature sensor set screw with a small Phillips head screwdriver.
Step 8: Then carefully remove the heater and temperature sensor.
Step 9: Remove the two hot block support screws at the bottom of the hotend and loosen the set screw in the heat sink, then slide out the entire hotend assembly from the heat sink. (Make sure your old PTFE tube is removed with the assembly.)
Installation
Now that you have removed the stock hotend, you are ready to install your new Copperhead hotend.
Step 1: Start by removing the retainer screw on the side of Copperhead with a 2.0 mm hex key.
There is a dowel pin inside the hot block. Try not to let it fall out of the hot block.
Step 2: Thoroughly coat your heater and the inside of the heater socket with BN paste using the included foam applicator swab.
Step 3: Then, inject the temperature sensor socket with BN paste until it’s full.
Step 4: Insert the heater and temperature sensor and clean any excess BN paste, then screw back in the retaining screw, making sure to run through the center of the temperature sensor wires.
Make sure the temperature sensor is completely inside the hot block and that you do not over-tighten the retainer screw.
Step 5: Insert the pre-cut Capricorn PTFE tube into the Neptune 3 heatsink, then insert the hotend assembly into the heatsink.
Step 6: Use a 1.5 mm hex key to tighten the hotend in place using the heat sink set screw.
Step 7: Place the silicone boot onto the hot block.
Reassembly
Step 1: Start by attaching the tool head to the gantry with the three screws on the backside of the mounting plate using a 2.0 mm hex key. Make sure to resecure the metal cable guide with the top two screws and then reconnect the cable to the top of the tool head.
Step 2: Next, go ahead and reconnect the fan shroud to the daughterboard by securing the 2 screws to hold the fan shroud back in place using a 2 mm hex key.
Step 3: Finally, plug back in your printer, turn on the power, and start printing! Optionally, apply a coat of Plastic Repellent Paint to your hotend to improve the performance!
